Welcomes in principle the effort to achieve maximum harmonisation in relation to real estate lending; is of the view, however, that flexibility with respect to the treatment of mortgage lending in the EU shall be maintained, given that these markets always developed differently in the past as they did during the financial crisis. The Commission should therefore refrain from tightening the requirements for the preferential treatment of mortgage exposures in stable mortgage markets;
