Wholeheartedly supports the Commission’s assertion that key enabling technologies and research on future and emerging technologies are vital prerequisites for enhancing the EU’s global competitiveness in a sustainable way; calls on the EU to ensure that the proposed High Level Expert Group will best contribute to the identification, ratification and implementation of concrete short, medium and long term measures in support of those technologies;

Considers that the provision of adequate financial resources is vital to the development of innovation and that the EU budget for innovation should therefore be substantially increased, while the rules for eligibility for R&D funding regarding preindustrial and/or experimental R&D should be reviewed at the same time;
