Stresses that representatives of EU institutions should make their official visits to Iran conditional and request inter alia the possibility of meeting political prisoners, especially those sentenced to death; furthermore should include in the programmes of their official visits to Iran meetings with opposition leaders/representatives of the Green Movement, and prominent Iranian human rights dissidents; stresses also that official mutual contacts between the delegations of the EP and the Majlis should be conditional on concrete improvements in human rights;

Underlines the fact that Russia has been one of the major suppliers of modern weapons and enriched uranium to Iran; welcomes the decision by the Russian Federation this year to halt the sale of the S-300 to Iran and its support for the UN sanctions against Iran over its nuclear programme; demands that Russia stop any kind of proliferation of weapons and export of uranium to Iran in order that the effectiveness of the sanctions against Iran and the fulfilment of the NPT may be ensured;
