Paragraph 1
1. Welcomes the fact that the Commission recognises the value of the EAFRD’s contribution to the development of European tourism and – while it is unfortunate that the requirement for national co-funding under the EAFRD means Member States cannot always take advantage of it – stresses the need to continue the measures supported through that fund and in the context of the CAP post-2013 at a sufficient level of financing in keepingcommensurate with the ambitions stated; emphasises that the ESF and the ERDF, in particular, can also contribute to the development of tourism in Europe; recalls the many requests already made to simplify the CAP and cut the red tape surrounding that policy, of which the EAFRD is an integral part;

Emphasises the fact that rural and farm tourism make a vital contribution to improving the quality of life in rural areassustainable job creation in rural areas, accentuating the key role of women on farms, and in the diversification of the rural economy, and help arrest the depopulation of rural areas, while also helping to preserve cultural identities and traditional customs;

Calls on the Commission to submit without delay a proposal for revising Regulation (EC) No 261/2004 establishing common rules on compensation and assistance to passengers in the event of denied boarding and of cancellation or long delay of flights, which in recent years has proven incapable of meeting even the most basic needs of tourists in difficulty;
