Highlights the fact that the gender pension gap is a complex phenomenon, which goes beyond the structures of pension systems and is rooted in gender- related differences on the labour market, such as unequal participation of men and women on the labour market, lack of recognition of the unpaid work provided by informal carers or lack of public services providing care for children, persons with disabilities and older persons etc.; Therefore calls upon the Commission and the Member States to act on the root causes of the gender pension gap by providing support for women to be active on the labour market, to invest in affordable and accessible care systems and to include in the of care periods in the calculation of social protection rights;
