4. Draws attention to the fact that, with the growth of on-line gaming and the Commission's efforts to liberalise the sector, it is also necessary to ensure betting integrity and deal with the question of compliance with intellectual property rights in connection in particular with on-line gamingCalls on Member States to adopt regulatory measures which ensure that sport is protected from any improper influence associated with betting; believes that there is a particular need to reduce the supply of betting opportunities and to address the risk of conflicts between the economic interests of a betting company and sporting results; calls on Member States to prohibit the ownership of sports clubs, or commercial involvement in them (e.g. sponsorship), by betting companies, as well as betting companies' links with sportspersons, unless the betting companies exclude the club or sportsperson in question from their sports betting offer.
