Considers it essential that every kind of sponsorship of food and beverages and advertising for so-called HSSF products (high in sugar, salt, fat) should be progressively banned in schools; asks for a voluntary commitment by all sports organisations and teams in order to promote balanced nutrition and physical activity and urges them to avoid sponsorship and promotion of food of poor nutritional value with the agreement of school authorities and after cooperation with pupil parents associations and local shopkeepers; but at the same time welcomes some successful partnerships already put in place in schools between sporting associations and industries to promote balanced nutrition and physical activity;

Calls for a ban on trans-fatty acids and uUrges EU Member States to follow good practices in controlling the content of substances in food (e.g. salt content); nevertheless points out that special exemptions should be provided for PDO (protected designation of origin) and, PGI (protected geographical indication) and TSG (traditional speciality guaranteed) and other types of traditional products in order to preserve original recipes; to this end has high expectations of the future Green paper on quality policy in agriculture in terms of better quality and protection of GI schemes;
