Emphasises that the global nature of the COVID-19 pandemic requires a global response; highlights the vulnerable position of women and girls in many parts of the world and conflict areas in relation to COVID-19, such as access to healthcare, including SRHR, vulnerability to gender based violence, including FGM and child and forced marriage, employment status, access to education and extreme poverty and hunger; notes that in many partner countries women are the breadwinners for their family and that feminised sector such as the garment industry and food production have been hardest hit, with knock-on impacts for their families’ and communities’ poverty levels and the economic independence and health and safety of women and girls; underlines the importance of supporting women’s rights defenders and women’s rights organisations;

Calls on the Commission and the Member States to fully assess the gender specific impacts and needs arising from the crisis and its socio- economic consequences, and to allocate adequate and dedicated and exclusive budgetary resources to tackling these needs, as well as to the monitoring of this spending and gender mainstreaming across all budgetary, policy and legislative proposals, following its commitments in the Gender Equality Strategy; emphasises that preparatory action is the best way to build resilience in all areas for future crises;
