8. Endorses the view taken by the Commission that the greatest problem in bringing about reintegration into the labour market is that Roma adults are under- represented in the working population and in lifelong learning, but over-represented among the long-term unemployed and those working on low-prestige occupations; calls therefore for the effective implementation of Directive 2000/78/EC which prohibits discrimination in employment and occupation on the grounds of religion or belief, disability, age or sexual orientation;

BWelievcomes that the proposal ofor a comprehensive new directive againsto combat discrimination is an excellent opportunity to evaluateoutside employment on the grounds of age, disability, sexual orientation, religion or belief and calls for the effective implementation of Directive 2000/43/EC; considers that, in the spirit of the Social Agenda, the Commission should identify specific objectives with the aim of preventing and reducing discrimination against and stigmatisation of the Roma and criminalisation of Roma communities;
