Stresses that a Carpathian macro- regional strategy, similar to the strategy for the Alpine region, could help to preserve traditional economic activities, encourage innovation and the development of new initiatives, contribute to the development of tourism in the wider region, including through thematic tourist routes and itineraries (food and wine tourism, sports tourism, etc.), as well as helping to support non-EU countries with a view to strengthening ties with the EU and mitigating possible negative effects on the EU’s external borders;
