(7a) The European Parliament and Council Recommendation on key competences for lifelong learning1 recognises cultural awareness and expression to be a priority, in particular highlighting the importance of the creative expression of ideas, experiences and emotions in a range of media (music, performing and visual arts and literature), as a key competence with which everyone should be equipped so that they can thrive in a knowledge-based society.
