Stresses the importance to maintain, and where appropriate, to reinforce, the derogation for journalistic purposes in Article 9 of Directive 95/46/EC which is a necessary prerequisite for the exercise of journalistic activities in an increasingly complex technological media environment and for the fulfilment of the media's role in democratic societies.
