Calls for the setting-up of an emergency response mechanism to the destruction of cultural heritage, building on the experience of the UN’s Blue Helmets for Culture task force initiative, in close and structured cooperation with UNESCO and with the technological support of Copernicus – the European Earth Observation Programme; stresses that the mechanism should be developed as soon as possible, particularly in view of the unjustifiable destruction of cultural heritage in the conflict zones in Iraq, Syria and Afghanistan
