Believes that the regions should use ESF funds more effectively to combat unemployment amongst young people in order to give them the opportunity to take up a suitable profession and that young people must be given support when they embark on their working lives so that they can provide for their future and furthermore contribute to economic growth and prosperity; considers that young people must be put in a position to develop skills, abilities and knowledge that will allow them to make an active contribution to the growth and sustainable future of the European Union and that will make it possible to achieve the objectives set out in the European Union's growth strategy;
