Points out that Member States might be tempted to pursue budget cuts in education and training, but, given the current economic situation, some Member States have no choice but to adjust their education and training budgets, but that those investments and expenses that have greater strategic value in each specific situation of national education should be safeguarded, emphasisesing that the Union’s multiannual financial framework goes in the opposite direction:anticipates that education and related sectors woill obtain the biggest percentage increase under the EU’s long-term budget;

Regrets that the Commission Communication on ‘Education and Training in smart, sustainable and inclusive Europe’ does not give adequate coverage to the issue of early school development; believes that this stage in education should be seen as the most crucial for the individuals’ future educational attainment and developmenreducing current rates of this phenomenon, in line with what is envisaged in ET 2020, must be regarded as a strategic objective, both at European and national level, because people’s later educational attainment, as well as their personal and professional development, are heavily dependent on it;

22 a. Recognises the role sport plays in education and training and thus invites the Member States to increase investment in sports and promote sports activities in schools to encourage integration and contribute to the development of positive values among young Europeans;

Stresses that training players at local level is fundamental for the sustainable development and the societal role of sport and expresses its support for sports governing bodies that encourage clubs to invest in the education and training of young local players through measures establishing a minimum number of locally trained players in a club squad and encourages to go further still;
