Considers that the European Animal Welfare Framework Law should include measures to solve the stray animal problem, which is particularly serious in the EU’s southern and eastern Member States, and urges that EU funding be provided for the implementation of effective sterilisation and castration measures; calls on the European Union and the Member States to ratify the European Convention for the Protection of Pet Animals and to transpose its provisions in national legal systems;

Points to the concern among European citizens, expressed through their petitions to Parliament, about abuse of un-stunned slaughtering in EU; calls on the Member states to ensure more effective enforcement of the legislation while guaranteeing the derogation for un-stunned slaughter on religious groundly if this is dictated by religious considerations;
