8b. Stresses that trade in raw materials cannot be used as a tool for achieving political goals but should have a solely economic dimension. It should not be used to generate political dependency, but should be subject to the usual economic rules;

Stresses the need to establish clear rules for cooperation in the field of raw materials trade between all participants involved (producers, exporters, transit countries, importers); at the same time, considers that the Commission should take a stand against projects which run counter to this principle, such as the construction of the Southstream gas pipeline, whose main purpose is to avoid using Ukraine as a transit country and block the creation of the Nabucco pipeline. The goal of Southstream should be to transfer gas extracted in Russia, while Nabucco should facilitate the supply of gas to the EU from other sources;
