5a. Points out that, in a number of Member States, small and medium-sized companies in particular use the option that is available under the Customs Code of ‘oral’ customs declarations for the import and export of consignments under the value of EUR 1000; stresses that abolishing this simplified procedure would considerably increase the administrative and financial burden on SMEs in particular, and would therefore be at odds with the Union’s aim of reducing red tape; insists that the option of ‘oral’ customs declarations should be retained in the implementing rules for the modernised Customs Code;
