Calls on the Commission strongly to support the Erasmus programme; notes that since its inception in 1987 the Erasmus programme has enabled more than 2.2 million students to be mobile within the EU, and hapoints out that the extensive use made of this exchange programme and the fact that the aim of the first European citizens’ initiative is to increase budgets for exchange programmes madke a significant contribution to mobility in European higher educationit clear that this is a most important issue for Union citizens;
