Insists on the diversification of energy resources as the only way to ensure the energy security of the Union; to that end, urges the Commission to strengthen the energy relations with the countries of the European Neighbourhood and Central Asia; at the same time, calls for the strict application and compliance with the Third Energy Package by all current and future energy sector undertakings operating on the territory of the Union;

Recalls that the Union's strategic partnerships with producer and transit countries, in particular countries covered by the European Neighbourhood Policy (ENP), require adequate tools, predictability, stability and long-term investment; emphasises, to that end, that the Union's climate objectives must be in accord with EU infrastructure investment projects oriented at diversifying supply rout require adequate tools, predictability, stability and long-term investment; therefore, recalls the importance of the swift completion of the energy interconnections with neighbouring countries as a way to strengthen the relations with those countries, and increasing the Union'ss well as the energy security of the Union;
