Asserts that, despite the differences between Member States as to the funding of pension insurance systems, contributory and redistributive schemes remain the main pillar for pension insurance, in particular for workers on the lowest incomes, and that particular attention must therefore be paid to the financial sustainability and viability of such schemes and to the implications of their future funding requirements for public finances within the European Union.
