Points out that innovation above all lies at the interface with practice; recommends, therefore, as the necessary complement to excellence in research, placing the focus of regional support on support for applications, without preventing research capacity from being built up, in order above all to enable companies to develop innovative methods; considers furthermore that steps should be taken to promote the large-scale development of a growing number of pilot projects;
