Notes that EU outward foreign direct investment in China has steadily decreased since 2012, while China’s investment in the EU has grown exponentially over the past years; notes that the Commission proposal to introduce a legal framework for the screening of FDI inflows into the EU was amongst others based on a sharp increase of Chinese investment into EU strategic sectors; reiterates that the screening of FDI into Europe as its sole purpose should have the protection of security or public order and should not lead to disguised protectionism;
