Stresses that wildlife crime poses a direct and prevalent threat to global biodiversity, in particular the rise in rhino poaching and unprecedented slaughter of elephants in Africa, which threaten these species, after years of recovery, with local extinction and, in some cases, global extinction; underlines the urgent need for coordinated action to combat illegal wildlife trade; welcomes the development of an EU Action Plan against Wildlife Trafficking;
