Urges the Commission to develop interpretative guidelines on FGM which give full consideration to the UNHCR Guidelines on gender-based persecution and Guidance Note on FGM and which clearly outline Member States’ obligationswith particular focus on identifying and communicating with vulnerable asylum seekers; stresses that FGM survivors may have difficulty in expressing their trauma around FGM;

Urges the Member States to guarantee and publicise the right of women seeking asylum to request a female interviewer and interpreter including the opportunity to have a personal interview separately from their husband/partner and other family members, and to deliver comprehensive and mandatory training for interviewers and interpreters on sexual violence, trauma and memory;
