Highlights the opportunity to create networking between pilot projects on sustainable urban development financed by the ERDF and the new multiannual Horizon 2020 programme, in order to guarantee innovative solutions and replicable strategies in urban regeneration; advocates an increase in funding for the 'Smart Cities and Communities Initiative' as a way of supporting a new development paradigm that will improve urban interconnections and the quality of life of local communities;
