Points out that competitiveness in the European Union shall not be reached by lowering the level of wages and/or pensions, but by innovation and highly skilled workers, by securing a high social standard in all of its Member States and by strengthening the domestic demand; therefore calls on Member States to make more investments in education, vocational training, research and development;
