Asks at the same time the Commission and the Member States to improve monitoring and reporting of chemical pollutants in water, along withto define binding limits and to introduce a mechanism to obtain better information on concentrations of other pollutants for which monitoring may prove necessary in the future at EU level;

Calls on the Commission and the Member States to develop water awareness programmes so as to introduce a water saving and water efficient culture among the European citizens; these awareness programmes must be aimed at citizens of all ages, so that this public and essential asset can be used more effectively and efficiently.
