Underlines that the necessary financial resources for R&D concerning the impact of climate change on forests have to be increased; is of the opinion that, particularly in view of the scientific uncertainty surrounding the timescale and extent of the problem and the specific geographical areas and productive sectors that will be affected by the consequences of climate change in Europe, it is necessary to earmark funding for climate research, which can be done more effectively at European level and will provide a sound basis for developing climate change adaptation policies for forests;
