Regrets, in this context, the impact of austerity policies pursued by various Member States and the detrimental effect they have had on the viability of many SMEs, e.g. through reduced consumer spending as a result of budget cuts, the shifting of the tax burden towards more indirect taxation that hits low and middle incomes harder, etc.;
