Details

The Council decided to move towards a conclusion of the cooperation agreement between the European Community and the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, which had been signed in Brussels on 17 July 1995. This agreement would enter into force on the first day of the month following the date on which the two parties notified each other that the necessary procedures had been completed.

Details

Commissioner MARIN began by outlining the new prospects in sight from the following March, after the Bangkok Summit. As far as relations with Vietnam were concerned, he was sure that these could be strengthened in such a way that various other problems could also be resolved; in this regard he said that the EU/Vietnam Joint Committee would provide a forum for examining difficult issues such as human rights.
