PURPOSE: to codify Council Directive 93/94/EEC relating to the space for mounting the rear registration plate of two or three-wheel vehicles.

LEGISLATIVE ACT: Directive 2009/62/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council relating to the space for mounting the rear registration plate of two or three-wheel motor vehicles (codified version).

CONTENT: Council Directive 93/94/EEC of 29 October 1993 relating to the space for mounting the rear registration plate of two or three-wheel vehicles has been substantially amended. Thus, in the interests of clarity and rationality the Directive should be codified. The objective of this Directive is not to harmonise the dimensions of registration plates used in the various Member States.

The new Directive will supersede the various acts incorporated in it. It fully preserves the content of the acts being codified and hence does no more than bring them together, with only such formal amendments as are required by the codification exercise itself.

ENTRY INTO FORCE: 19/08/2009.
