   EP - Decision by Parliament
Details

The European Parliament decided, by 435 votes to 49 with 105 abstentions, to approve the appointment of Karen Braun-Munzinger as Member of the Single Resolution Board for a period of five years.

As a reminder, Regulation (EU) No 806/2014 of the European Parliament and of the Council establishing uniform rules and a uniform procedure for the resolution of credit institutions and certain investment firms in the framework of a Single Resolution Mechanism and a Single Resolution Fund. It provides that the members of the Single Resolution Board are to be appointed on the basis of merit, skills, knowledge of banking and financial matters, and of experience relevant to financial supervision, regulation and bank resolution.

Moreover, in accordance with this Regulation, the Commission provides the shortlist to Parliament.

On 12 March 2024, the Commission adopted a proposal to appoint Karen Braun-Munzinger as Member of the Single Resolution Board and transmitted that proposal to Parliament.

The Committee on Economic and Monetary Affairs subsequently assessed the credentials of the proposed candidate and held a hearing with Karen Braun-Munzinger on 20 March 2024, during which she made an opening statement and then answered questions put by committee members.

Parliament recalled its commitment to ensuring gender balance in senior positions in the field of banking and financial services. It considers that all EU and Member State bodies and institutions should implement concrete measures to ensure gender balance.
