Stresses the importance of Member States allocating adequate resources for the market surveillance of the energy efficiency of products, so as to ensure a level playing field for the industry while providing consumers with the information they need to make informed choices; stresses the need to ensure that petrol and diesel prices are cut by the same proportion and at the same pace as falls in the price of crude oil, whilst monitoring their distribution market shares, which will translate into increased benefits for business and consumers;

Recalls the importance of setting ambitious binding goals for energy efficiency that involve reducing EU dependence on imported energy while augmenting jobs and growth; stresses that in order to achieve energy independence, it is essential for investment by the EU, the Member States and the regions to be geared to R&I and technologies that will enable us to develop innovative projects, make our SMEs and industries more competitive and create more quality jobs, thereby attracting investment and opening up new markets;

Stresses that, since technology is an essential element in reducing energy demand, it is vital to support innovative projects focusing on renewable and clean energy so as to ensure that they are competitive and that they guarantee supply, and to ensure that we are more sustainable; calls for funding for ‘secure, clean and efficient energy’ as listed in Annex II of Regulation (EU) 1291/2013 to be protected, since it will enable us to become the world leader in renewable and clean energies;

Points out that, if our business and industrial fabric is to be competitive, the fragmentation resulting from the existence of 28 markets must be brought to an end, guaranteeing balanced price competition within the EU that will make it possible to reduce our costs, which will in turn have a positive impact in terms of creating jobs and stimulating the economy, enabling Europe to compete on an equal footing with the world’s leading powers; notes that the single energy market must guarantee access to that market for SMEs, removing technical and regulatory barriers;
