Stresses that the 2020 budget must contribute to tackling environmental challenges and climate change; recalls the Union’s pledge to make the transition to a low-carbon circular economy, but regrets that the Union might fall short of its climate goals; requests increased financial resources for LIFE, Clean energy for EU islands initiative and other programmes to support projects with European added value contributing to a socially conscious clean energy transition and resource efficiency, as well as nature conservation, with a focus on biodiversity, habitats and endangered species;
