Underlines the potential for boosting cultural tourism in rural and island regions which offer intact nature and landscapes, traditional culture (folk arttraditional folk arts, costumes, handcrafts, local festivals, gastronomic traditions), local products and authenticity, industrial, agricultural heritage as well as cultural heritage of ethnic minorities; stresses, in this regard, the importance of intermodal connectivity as a means of enhancing the appeal of smaller and remote tourist destinations;

Reiterates the important principle of sustainable and responsible tourism, while respecting privacy rights of local residents, and expresses its conviction that EU action should first of all encourage the prosperity of tourism in Europe, but that it must also respond to concerns relating to possible negative effects of structural changes caused by tourism and risks to cultural heritage posed by mass tourism;

Emphasises the significant potential for the development of entrepreneurial activity in the tourism sector, in particular of tourism SMEs, which contribute to the preservation, protection and promotion of Europe’s cultural heritage; stresses that quality of service and high-level professional skills are key factors for the success and competitiveness of the European tourism sector, therefore supports quality jobs for local residents;
