Underlines the potential for boosting cultural tourism in mountain, rural and island regions which offer intact nature and landscapes, traditional culture (folk arts, handcrafts, local festivals, gastronomic traditions), local products and authenticity; stresses, in this regard, the importance of intermodal connectivity as a means of enhancing the appeal of smaller and remote tourist destinations;

Supports the creation of transnational cultural tourism products which reflect common European shared values and heritage, while preserving the authenticity and diversity of local cultures; calls on the Commission to continue co-financing and promoting, in close cooperation with the Council of Europe, the European Cultural Routes and Itineraries, which are the best examples of transnational pan-European thematic tourism projects;
