Notes that President Xi Jinping is trying to give a new attractive face to Chinese politics through an attitude of openness and to impress world leaders by projecting both accessibility and powerful self-confidence; points out, however, that President Xi is not the new attractive face of Chinese politics for the country's civil rights activists, lawyers, journalists, bloggers and academics, who find their freedom curbed in a way not seen since decades; observes that China´s human rights record remains a matter of serious concern;
