Calls for the reduction of animal journey times, in particular long and very long journey times, by employing alternative strategies, such as on economically viable and fairly distributed local slaughter facilities, replacing the transport of breeding animals by using semen or embryos, and transportation of carcasses and meat products, as well as by means of legislative initiatives in Member States to facilitate on-farm slaughter;
