Emphasises that security and defence constitute an area where European added value can be easily demonstrated, in terms of economic and efficiency gains, by giving Member States increased and more cost-effective capacity, through greater coherence, coordination and interoperability in security and defence, as well as in terms of contributing to consolidating solidarity and cohesion within the Union; therefore advocates the medium-term integration of national armed forces within a joint European army;
