8a. Supports the Commission in its move to subject all new legislative proposals to an intensive and rigorous assessment of their implications, examining in particular whether the proposals have unfavourable implications for the functioning of the internal market or the competitiveness of European businesses; calls on the Commission, particularly with regard to legislative proposals relating to the protection of consumers, the climate and the environment, to take account of competitiveness as a core objective of the Lisbon Strategy.
