Points out that the internal market still has enormous, untapped potential to boost competitiveness and growth in the EU, and therefore urges the Commission and the Member States to accelerate their efforts to remove remaining barriers, to the benefit of EU consumers, employees and companies, particularly SMEs; stresses that companies and consumers are being prevented from taking full advantage of the single market by inadequate transposition and implementation of single market legislation; therefore urges the Commission and the Member States to accelerate their efforts to remove remaining barriers and emphasises the importance of establishing increasingly close cooperation between the European Parliament and the national parliaments with that end in view;

Encourages further exploitation of the potential of the 98/34 notification procedure, and suggests that Member States introduce competitiveness proofing in impact assessments conducted at the drafting stages of national legislative processes. , in the wider framework of the 'Single Market Test' asked for in the European Parliament resolution of 7 February 2013 with recommendations to the Commission on the governance of the Single Market;
