Points out, nevertheless, that the transport sector has been one of the pioneers in using and implementing new information technologies and intelligent and automation systems (satellite navigation in the aviation sector and logistics monitoring, ERTMS, fleet management, tolls, digital tachographs, safety cameras, etc.); points out, however, that the digitisation of the transport sector does not per se imply an improved service for users, and political will is crucial in order to put an end to the dominant positions held by incumbent operators, and to state-imposed trade and regulatory barriers;

Notes that digitisation in the transport sector can result in the exclusion of some social groups for whom it is difficult to get to grips with new technologies, such as elderly people, those who are not digitally literate, and people with disabilities; calls on the Commission, in implementing the digital single market, to take account of the risk of those users being excluded;
