1. Re-emphasises its longstanding commitment to the promotion of language learning, multilingualism and linguistic diversity in Europe, including regional and minority languages, as these are cultural assets that must be safeguarded and nurtured; considers also that linguistic diversity is the highest and most effective form of communication for the purposes of public debate and represents a means of facilitating comprehension between individuals and acceptance of diversity and of minorities;
