Stresses that energy saving policies for the transport sector must not result in curbing mobility and that any emission reduction requirements have to be evaluated for their effect on competitiveness of the European industry ; believes that a resource- efficient transport sector can only be achieved by a balanced and integrated policy approach which provides the right incentives for economic actors;

5. Advocates an increased role for sustainable biofuels in the EU energy mix; notes, nevertheless, that any introduction of a higher proportion of biofuels has to be well prepared, harmonized within the EU, communicated and executed, that all relevant stakeholders have to be ready to supply the requested fuel mix at the time of introduction, and public authorities need to explain the consequences of any change in the fuel mix;
