Recognises that, under Article 168 TEC, actions relating to health matters are primarily the responsibility of the Member States, but stresses the importance of establishing a Community roadmap and encourages the Commission and the Member States to take joint action and a comprehensive approach by incorporating the medical field into policy areas such as education, environment, research and social issues;

3. Considers that success is also dependent on the Member States’ commitment to making the necessary efforts towards combating cancer and calls on the Commission and the Member States to take more decisive and coordinated action with a view to preventing cancer effectively;
