5a. Member States shall take the necessary measures to ensure that by 2030 the amount of municipal waste incinerated or sent to low grade mechanical biological treatment is limited to a maximum to 25% of the total amount of municipal waste generated.

6. Estonia, Greece, Croatia, Latvia, Malta, Romania and SlovakiaMember States may obtain five additional years for the attainment of the target referred to in paragraph 5, if they in 2023 produce less than 125 kilogrammes per capita of residual waste. The Member State shall notify the Commission of its intention to make use of this provision at the latest 24 months before the deadline laid down in paragraph 5. In the event of an extension, the Member State shall take the necessary measures to reduce by 2030 the amount of municipal waste landfilled to 20% of the total amount of municipal waste generated.
