1. Welcomes the EU Action Plan against Wildlife Trafficking which will play a crucialn important role in combating the alarming rise in the highly lucrative illegal trade in wildlife, which generates an estimated annual income of between 8 and 20 billion euros; underlines, in particular, Priority 2 concerning the implementation and enforcement of the relevant existing rules and legal frameworks;

4. Welcomes the inclusion of provisions ensuring the conservation and sustainable use of biological diversity in the EU-Vietnam free trade agreement (FTA) and insists on including wildlife protection provisions in all future EU FTAs, including, but not limited to, those with the US and Japan as target markets; calls on the Commission to include the analysis of these provisions in its implementation reports;

4a. Stresses the importance of addressing, in the context of the EU- China Strategic Partnership, the sensitive issue of the growing demand for wildlife products, such as elephant ivory, rhinoceros horn and tiger bones, which represents a real threat to the conservation of these species and to biodiversity in general;
