Endorses the majority of the recommendations published by the 2016 EU Sheepmeat Forum, held under the aegis of the Commission, in particular the need to compensate the sector for the environmental role it plays; takes the view that these recommendations are equally valid for the sectors of goatmeat and ewe’s and goat’s milk products;

Believes it necessary to improve the bargaining power of producers in the food chain, extending rules on contractual relations for the sheep-and goat-farming by establishing producer organisations similar to those existing in other crop and livestock sectors, in line with the agreement reached as part of the Omnibus Regulation, in order to improve the competitiveness and current low productivity of the sector;
