Notes that coexistence between people and large carnivores, particularly wolves, can have negative impacts on the sustainable development of settled rural areas such as the Alpine region, particularly in connection with traditional pasture farming; calls on the Commission to take concrete measures to address these issues, so as not to endanger the sustainable development of rural areas, while recognising the available flexibility within the Habitats Directive (92/43/EEC);
